geometry.jpgSHAPES ALL AROUND US
When you look around your world, either at home or school, virtually everywhere you go, you will find a variety of shapes surround you. As I look around my office I can see many shapes. For example, the clock is a circle, the drawers on my cabinet are squares, the table I am sitting at is a rectangle, the tiles on the floor are diamonds, the roof on the building across the street is the shape of a triangle and right here on my laptop there are sooooooooooo many different shapes- squares, circles and rectangles!
Your assignment this week is to identify an object in your environment, determine it's shape and write a riddle to describe it.
Your classmates will then try and guess the answer by responding to your post and you, in turn, will need to respond and let them know if they are right/wrong.

For example:

I see this object in my yard by my neighbors fence.
My dogs and cats know to stay away from it.
I am amazed that an insect could construct this amazing home.
Can you name the object and it's shape?

A classmate would write his/her guess:
It's a beehive and the shape would be a hexagon.

You would respond:
Yep, that's right it is a beehive. Check out the picture of it on the Picture Page!

Have fun discovering the shapes in your world! Be creative when writing your riddle and remember to check for spelling and grammar BEFORE you post your riddle!
